Our Sisterhood

"We can have unity in diversity and diversity in unity. We don't have to be like one another to enjoy sisterhood."

-Barbara W. Winder

Chapter History

Quick Facts

On November 9, 1991, Kappa Delta Chi became  a nationally recognized sorority with the induction of the Delta chapter at the University of Arizona. Our nine charter members are Alicia Acevedo, Sereslinda Bojorquez, Rita Dominguez, Monica Anne Franco, Yvette Garcia, Luz Maria Hernandez, Aida Nido, Renee Rivera and Rose E. Villa. We became the first Latina-founded, service-based sorority to be recognized on campus. Our high standards emanate through our sisterly friendship and servitude to each other and those around us. Hence, why we refer to ourselves as Delta Divas.

National History

Four friends at Texas Tech University recognized the need to unify and promote leadership among Hispanic women on campus. These four women, Cynthia Garza, Nellie Flores, Irene Montoya and Melissa Montoya, are our founders. In order to officially establish the sorority, our founders enlisted 10 women to become our charter members. On April 6, 1987, Kappa Delta Chi was recognized as an official organization on campus. Over the years, we have grown to include women of various ethnicities and cultures and have inducted over 50 chapters around the country.
